History

This beautiful old weatherboard two-storey pub was originally a single storey hotel est. in 1874 & called the White Horse Inn. In 1885 the second storey was added and the hotel renamed The Commercial, under which name it traded until 1985 when it was again renamed, this time to the Cooktown Hotel, known locally as “the Top Pub”. Tender loving care has restored the hotel to its former glory where guests can sit on the balcony and enjoy the beautiful sunsets that Cooktown has to offer.
